Malasana – Muladhara
I’m going post a pose every week that corresponds to the Chakras. The chakras are energy centers in our body and when they’re balanced, we thrive. When they’re unbalanced, different emotional and physical symptoms may occur.
I love this pose, but that wasn’t always the case. After going through several knee surgeries, this pose caused me pain for a long time. So if you have any knee or lower back pain while doing this pose, it might not be for you at this time.
When our root chakra is balanced, we feel grounded and a sense of stability and security. When it is out of balance, we may feel anxious and distrustful of ourselves and others. Physically, when it’s out of balance, we may experience pain in our colon, bladder, lower back, legs, or feet.
How-to
- Bring your feet hips distance apart (I prefer going as wide as my mat). Turn your heels slightly in and toes out.
- Sink your hips down while trying to keep your chest up.
- Maintain a long, straight spine. Broaden out through your collarbones.
- Put more pressure onto the outside edges of your feet and squeeze your glutes
- Press your hands at heart center and bring your elbows to the inside of your knees

Tips
- If your heels raise up from the floor, roll a blanket or your mat underneath your heels to root down
- If your back is rounded, place a couple or two underneath your hips
- If your knees collapse in, raise your hips a little higher and think about squeezing your glutes

Does the words in red mean wrong post? correct position is in green?
Yes, you want to do the green ones! And try not to do the red ones 🙂
